Introduction

The title of this booklet might seem too far-fetched and not much self-evident. In reality it is only a variation of the common phrase "'the air that we breathe", that expresses the vital role of air in the functioning and the survival of our physical life.
Many people do not pray, or do not know how to pray, because they don 't have the right idea of God.
They think of Him as some kind of boss that is trying to interfere with our life, or as a friend indeed, but who lives far away, and whom we have to see up for certain occasions.
The truth is that God is living with us all the time, that He is holding us in life and enabling us to continue to live and to face our life in the unfolding of days, and months and years.
God does not need us, He loves us. He does not get richer from our worship and our obedience. It is we that are in desperate need of Him.
He is essential to our minds and souls, and to our joy and real success, as the air is essential to our physical life.
Whether we rest or work, study or recreate ourselves, alone or in company, with friends or with enemies, God is always with us. And what is really consoling is that He loves us, and that He is always stretching out his hand to help us.
If this booklet has any ambition at all, it is that of giving the reader a sample of how everything and every incident in life can help us to raise our mind to God in whom "we live, we move and exist". (Acts 17, 28).

Introduzione

Il titolo di questo opuscolo potrebbe sembrare troppo inverosimile e non molto evidente. In realtà è solo una variazione della comune espressione “l'aria che respiriamo”, che indica il ruolo vitale dell'aria nel funzionamento e nella sopravvivenza della nostra vita fisica.
Molti non pregano o non sanno come pregare, perché non hanno la corretta idea di Dio.
Pensano a Lui come a una specie di capo che cerca d’interferire nelle nostre vite, oppure come un amico, in effetti, ma che vive lontano e che dobbiamo vedere in certe occasioni.
La verità è che Dio vive con noi per tutto il tempo, che ci tiene in vita e ci rende capaci di continuare a vivere e ad affrontare la nostra vita nel dispiegarsi dei giorni, dei mesi e degli anni.
Dio non ha bisogno di noi, ci ama. Non diventa più ricco per mezzo della nostra adorazione e della nostra obbedienza. Siamo noi ad avere un disperato bisogno di Lui. È essenziale per le nostre menti e per le nostre anime, e per la nostra gioia e il nostro successo, come l’aria è essenziale per la nostra vita fisica.
Sia che riposiamo o lavoriamo, studiamo o ci ricreiamo da soli o in compagnia, con gli amici o con i nemici, Dio è sempre con noi. E ciò che è davvero consolante è che ci ama e che ci tende sempre la sua mano per aiutarci.
Se questo opuscolo ha una qualche ambizione è quella di dare al lettore un esempio di come qualsiasi cosa e qualsiasi evento nella vita possa aiutarci a far risalire la nostra mente a Dio, nel quale “viviamo, ci muoviamo ed esistiamo”. (Atti 17, 28).
